- I-81. Blasting and slow rolls this morning, 9 to 11 a.m., on the 143–150 widening. County notice says about 15 minutes if you catch a roll. The window runs about eight weeks. (Roanoke County)
- Council. Seven candidates for three Roanoke City Council seats are at a Greater Deyerle forum tonight at Covenant Presbyterian Church. Meet-and-greet is 6:30 p.m.; moderated Q&A at 7. (Cardinal News)
- Salem. Councilman John Saunders's celebration of life is today at the Civic Center. Visitation 4 p.m., service 6 p.m. The city is taking interim applications through Sept. 8. (City of Salem)
- Christiansburg. Town Council voted 6-0 Tuesday night to end the Flock camera contract. WSLS says the town has not posted which cameras come down first or when. (WSLS)
- VTC. The Board of Visitors cut in-state tuition at the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine by $15,000 a year — 23.4 percent below the nonresident rate — starting this fall. New state operating money is the lever. (Virginia Tech News)
- Hotel Roanoke. Former Mayor David Bowers wants City Hall to deny, on the record, that dissolving the Hotel Roanoke Conference Center Commission is a back door to a casino at the hotel. The city has an NDA — and a $75,000 payment — with an unnamed casino developer on Berglund. The Rambler says it found no public document linking the two. (The Roanoke Rambler)
- Google / water. After Tuesday's open house, the water authority told the Roanoke Times it is very comfortable supplying Google's Botetourt data center. Headline and link only on that outlet. (The Roanoke Times)
